Porter is the oldest commercially brewed style and London Porter was Emerson's first beer. Dark, dry and mellow with some hoppy characteristics, pours a deep brown colour with reddish tints.

Just make sure you keep it somewhere cold - this isn't actually a real fridge.

Commiserations. We regret to inform you that you haven't made the Naughty List. You're officially Nice. If it's any consolation, this beer is no less naughty. A big, bold Hazy Double IPA, with intense citrus and tropical flavours, and blueberry aromas. At 7.8% ABV it's a good one to share, perhaps with one of your Nice friends.

The Orange Roughy's scientific name is Hoplostethus atlanticus. Which roughly translates as, hazy, hoppy pale ale with a tropical fruit aroma, citrus flavour, and malty backbone. In the past, the roughy has been subject to unsustainable practices - completely selling out. Thanks to the hard work of our brewers, numbers are now on the rise. Careful you don't exceed your quota, though.

It's unwise to make sweeping generalisations about Phantom Lords. They're not all sinister and evil. In fact, this one is quite the fun, fruity character. Brewed with a heady combo of Kohatu (NZ) and Mosaic (US) hops, Phantom Lord Hazy IPA is full of complex tropical flavours. Pineapple, lime, and stone fruit meet mango, citrus and berries. Just watch out, at 6.66%, it does still have a bit of devil in it.

Phantom Lords are so misunderstood. Everyone thinks they want to tear your soul out, or claim your firstborn. Take this one. Yes, it does the whole Dark Side thing - black as tar, roasty chocolate notes, but it's also chirpy and hoppy as an American Pale Ale. Turns out Phantom Lords just wanna have fun, then tear your soul out.

This Phantom Lord's soul draws its spirit not from the Underworld, but California, USA. As a West Coast IPA, it's absolutely brimming with Centennial, Simcoe, and Citra hops. They were going to stop adding them, but the devil on their shoulder told them to keep going. And he was right. The result has the classic, bitter bite you want, with big grapefruit, resinous pine, and passionfruit undertones. It's the loudest Phantom Lord yet well, it is American.

The Rock & Pillar Range looks over the small Otago town of Middlemarch, that Richard Emerson calls home. Here, locals know Richard to be both a pillar of the community, and a rock. Or at least that's what he thinks they mean by pillar. Whatever they may say, his house is always a popular spot for a beer. And this dark ale will be perfect for a bone chilling Strath Taieri night. Rock & Pillar sits somewhere between a brown porter and a stout, robust with rich malt, roasted cocoa, dark chocolate and coffee flavours that are as bittersweet as the local sense of humour.

At 04:17pm, on 22 July 2028, Dunedin's sun will be fully obscured. Only this time, it won't be a cloud that's getting in the way. It will be the first total solar eclipse here, since 1163. To mark this historic, future moment of darkness, a super Bright IPA was brewed. Sunblock was brewed with Eclipse hops (of course), for sweet mandarin orange, zesty citrus peel flavours, and a fresh subtle pine finish. Best enjoyed with your eclipse glasses on. This beer was brewed in collaboration with the astronomy loving friends at Tuhura Otago Museum.

If you've been mowing your super-long lawn, running super-fast, or out in the super-hot sun, you'll need to super-quench your super-thirst. This Pacific Pilsner has been dry-hopped with NZ and US hops to make it super-tasty, while it's light body and crisp finish make it super-refreshing. At just 4% ABV, and 40% lower in carbs, you can feel slightly-smug, too.

Taieri George is named after the most important Emerson of all - Richard's Dad. Not only was he a founding member of the Taieri Gorge Railway, he was also the brewery's original Chief taster. He particularly enjoyed this drop, brewed with cinnamon, nutmeg and Otago clover honey. In his memory, Emerson's release this brew on his birthday. Here's to you, George.

A refreshingly lively lager with hints of tropical, fruit like notes and a mild bitterness. DB Export 33 has an ABV of 4.6%. This full flavoured lager was launched in 2008 and named 'Best Low Carbohydrate Beer in New Zealand' in 2009 and 2010 at the NZ Beer Awards. It also became the first New Zealand low carb beer to win a Gold medal at the prestigious Monde Selection awards in Belgium in 2010, winning Gold again in 2011.
